Caliveras Enterprise (August 14, 2012)

A group of foreign exchange students from China stand with Sgt. Chis Hewitt, Cpl. Rick Dibasilio and Deputy Matt Anderson of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, holding unloaded weapons used by the Sheriff’s Office. Hewitt led the students on a tour of the Calaveras County Jail and answered questions they asked as part of a sociological research project they’re working on comparing China to America.

The group was brought to the United States through the Educational Resource Development Trust, which has exchange programs with 57 countries. Jody Roebuck, regional director of ERDT, said the program is always looking for families to host students for as little as one week or up to a year. Stipends are provided to help defray the costs.
